Late 2010, the folks at BentoComics.com decided to do an anthology based on the adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The aim was to create a series of Holmes-inspired short stories, loosely related to the legendary detective, but giving plenty of leeway for all the possibilities. Considering how well the Sherlock Holmes movie did in the cinemas, we thought it would attract attention and sell well. And it did.
For my story, I decided to write the character of a detective nun, Sister Holmes. For inspiration, I re-read the original Sherlock Holmes stories, and was very much inspired by them. It’s not often you see short stories that are purely based on deduction or inference, and I was also pleased to see that much of the Holmes stories weren’t Murder Mysteries. Too many mysteries (especially manga ones like Detective Conan or Kindaichi Files) I’ve read are whodunnits – and they often limit the scope of possibilities by concentrating on who the murderer is. Sherlock Holmes ‘ stories are more varied and unpredictable, and I was inspired to write some of my own.
Given that there’s more anthologies planned, I will keep this place up as I hope to write more Sister Holmes stories.
